The Theology of the Cross in the Hymns of Paul Gerhardt
This study of Paul Gerhardt's hymns will be our topic for Sundays, May 20 and 27. This year is the 400th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest hymn writers of the Lutheran church. We will listen to some musical examples and sing some of Gerhardt's hymns as we examine the hymn texts. Please join us at 10:30 AM!
LSF Bible/Catechism Study: The Second Table of the Law (Part 1)
This Wednesday, May 23, we will study Matthew 5:17-48, "Christ Fulfills the Law" and commandments 4-8 from Luther's Small Catechism.
The LSF BIBLE/CATECHISM STUDY examines a portion of the Bible and its application to Luther's Small Catechism, to encourage Bible study and catechism review. We meet each Wednesday at 7 PM for Vespers at Luther Memorial Chapel and then move to the student center for the study.

Week of 5/13-5/20
LSF Bible/Catechism Study: Commandments 1-3
Wednesday, May 16 - 7 PM - Luther Memorial Chapel
This week we examine the account of the Rich Man and Lazarus, Luke 16:19-31. Who is God? Who was the god of the rich man? We'll begin looking at the Ten Commandments, particularly commandments 1-3. We'll also have a few quotes from the Large Catechism and look at Luther's catechism hymn "These Are the Holy Ten Commands" (LSB 581).

Ascension Day: May 17
Divine Service - 6:30 PM - Luther Memorial Chapel
One of the most important (and most overlooked) festivals of the church is Ascension Day, 40 days after Easter when we remember Jesus' Ascension to heaven. We celebrate His presence for us at the right hand of Our Father, where He continually intercedes on our behalf. Join us as we celebrate this important feast day with the Divine Service this Thursday, May 17 at 6:30 P.M. An ice cream social will follow in the Parish Hall.

Table Talk: The Bible in Context

Have you ever encountered Bible passages that are difficult to understand? What are some practices that we can use to help us understand the Bible without coming up with the wrong interpretation? Join us as we look at some ways to understand difficult and commonly misunderstood Bible verses.
TABLE TALK is an informal study/discussion, with a brief presentation and opportunity to ask questions and discuss Lutheran teaching and practice. We meet each Wednesday at 8:30 AM through May 16 in UWM Union Room 147
